Eri Fukatsu at "Akunin" press conference in Tokyo

At the first press conference back in Japan since Eri Fukatsu won the best actress award at the 2010 Montreal World Film Festival on September 6 for "Akunin" ("Villain"), it was announced that the film is attracting strong international interest -- including a Hollywood remake offer.

Fukatsu was joined by co-star Satoshi Tsumabuki and director Sang-il Lee at a packed presser at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan on Tuesday.

Eri Fukatsu wins best actress award in Montreal

Eri Fukatsu won the Best Actress Award at the 34th Montreal World Film Festival for her starring role in "Akunin" ("Villain"). In the film, she plays a woman who falls in love with a murderer and runs away with him.

"Merci beaucoup," Fukatsu told the audience at the awards ceremony. "I'm thrilled. I want to share this joy with other cast and staff members who are in Japan. Thank you very, very much."

The film will open at theaters throughout Japan on September 11. Fukatsu became the second Japanese to win the Best Actress Award at the festival, following Yuko Tanaka who won the prize for her role in "Amagi Goe" in 1983.
